THE GUIDE
The catalogue’s stays on the coasts south of Tokyo are in four places: hotels on the Yokohama waterfront, an auberge on Morito beach in Hayama, and ryokan on the Boso Peninsula across Tokyo Bay, in Kyonan and in Tateyama. Each Kanagawa stay holds one MICHELIN Key; the Chiba inns hold no Key and are in the catalogue as members of The Ryokan Collection, with a private bath in every room. This guide compares them by district and by how you get there.

Who each district suits
Yokohama suits travellers who want to arrive by train or from Haneda and move on by Shinkansen, and families: InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 takes children of every age, babies included, and The Kahala lets children aged 12 and under share an existing bed free. Hayama suits a trip that pairs the beach with Kamakura’s temples. Kyonan and Tateyama suit adults who want a private hot-spring bath in the room; neither inn takes children. For hot-spring towns inland or down the Izu coast, compare Hakone, Izu and Atami and Nikko and Nasu, or the rated onsen stays within a couple of hours of Tokyo.

This box covers one of the stays in this guide. Every card on this page opens that stay’s own page, with its own booking options.
Which of these stays have a hot-spring bath in the room?
Sazane and THE SHINRA. Sazane’s rooms each have an open-air bath of Awa hot-spring water drawn from 600 m underground; THE SHINRA’s each have a private open-air bath of Tateyama onsen water. No private bath is recorded for the Kanagawa stays.
Can I bring children?
In Yokohama, yes: InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 welcomes children of every age, and The Kahala lets children 12 and under share an existing bed free. Casa CABaN HAYAMA publishes no age rule but lends baby items; its pool is for ages 13 and up. Sazane does not accept guests aged 12 and under, and THE SHINRA does not accept guests under 13.
Is there a car-free way from Yokohama to the Boso stays?
Yes. Cross by the Tokyo Wan Ferry from Kurihama to Kanaya (about 40 minutes), then take the JR Uchibo Line south; Sazane is about 10 minutes on foot from Awa-Katsuyama Station and THE SHINRA sends a shuttle from JR Tateyama Station.
Sazane and THE SHINRA hold no MICHELIN Key. Why are they in the catalogue?
Both are members of The Ryokan Collection, which the catalogue counts alongside MICHELIN Keys and Relais & Châteaux. Neither holds a Key or Relais & Châteaux membership; the table shows each stay’s award and its source.
