Pick the destination before the hotel
Nikko is for shrines, temples and a culture-first itinerary. Lake Chuzenji adds nature and a full resort stay but requires more road time. Kinugawa is the easiest pure-onsen choice by train. Nasu suits drivers, families and travellers who want a highland kitchen-and-retreat trip. Combining Nikko and Nasu in one short stay wastes time; choose one side unless you have a car and at least three nights.
