Tokyo's rated stays are mostly city hotels. Palace Hotel Tokyo, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi and Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo hold the top grade of three MICHELIN Keys; Aman Tokyo and Janu Tokyo, both of the Aman group, hold two. This guide sets out where they are and what each is, from the facts the hotels and MICHELIN publish.

The three-Key hotels: Marunouchi, Otemachi and Yaesu
Palace Hotel Tokyo, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi and Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo hold three MICHELIN Keys. Palace Hotel Tokyo, at 1-1-1 Marunouchi, connects underground to Otemachi Station and is an 8-minute walk from the Marunouchi North Exit of Tokyo Station. Four Seasons at Otemachi takes the top six floors of a tower designed by SOM, with interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy. Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo is at 2-2-1 Yaesu, on the other side of Tokyo Station.
Aman, Janu and a four-room inn
Aman Tokyo was Aman's first city hotel rather than a resort. It occupies the top floors of the Otemachi Tower, which connects to Otemachi subway station; every room is a suite, and the spa has a 30-metre pool. Its site says some suites see Mount Fuji on the horizon on clearer days; the hotels that state a Fuji view from the room are set out in Tokyo hotels with Mt Fuji views from the room. Janu Tokyo, the Aman group's Janu-brand hotel, is in the Azabudai Hills development in Minato, with a 4,000-square-metre wellness centre. At the other end of scale, Auberge TOKITO in Tachikawa has four rooms, each with a free-flowing open-air hot-spring bath drawn from 1,300 m underground, one minute on foot from Nishi-Kunitachi Station.

Can you stay at an onsen in Tokyo?
Within Tokyo, Auberge TOKITO has a free-flowing hot-spring bath in each of its four rooms, and FUFU Tokyo Ginza has a bath of hot-spring water brought from Atami in each room. For an onsen town, Hakone is the nearest: JNTO gives about 90 minutes on the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto, or about 55 minutes from Tokyo Station by Tokaido Shinkansen to Odawara and the Hakone Tozan Line.
