THE SHINRA is an adults-only resort combining hotel- and ryokan-style service, set on a hill overlooking Tateyama Bay on the Boso Peninsula, about two hours from central Tokyo. It combines a renovated Classic building with a newer Prestige tower, offering room types from standard twins to suites of over 100 sqm, and every room has an ocean view and a private open-air bath of Tateyama onsen water. There is also a panoramic communal bath at 50 m above sea level, a spa and a cave bar. Dinner is served in the dining room of the Prestige building and centres on local fish landed each morning by the operator's own set-net fishing boats. Guests under 13 are not accepted.
