THE GUIDE

The catalogue’s Hokkaido stays fall into five districts. Most are around Niseko — in the Hirafu ski village, in Hanazono’s woods and in Niseko Village — and the rest are separate trips: a ryokan in Noboribetsu Onsen and a six-suite former consulate in Hakodate. Ski access, transfers and room size differ from district to district, so the district comes first below.

The short answer

To ski from the door: MUWA NISEKO or Sansui Niseko in Hirafu, both ski-in, ski-out. For space for a family or group: Setsu Niseko, whose 190 rooms all have kitchens. For a ryokan away from the lifts: Zaborin or the five-villa SHIGUCHI, both in Hanazono. Zaborin holds two MICHELIN Keys, the only stay in Hokkaido that does. For a full-service hotel with a kids’ club: Higashiyama Niseko Village, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Outside Niseko: Takinoya in Noboribetsu Onsen, and Hotel Biaclyn Hakodate, the catalogue’s only Relais & Châteaux member in Hokkaido.

Niseko’s three districts: Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village

Hirafu is the ski village of Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU, in Kutchan. MUWA NISEKO and Sansui Niseko are ski-in, ski-out; Setsu Niseko runs a winter shuttle to the gondola. Each has multi-bedroom suites: the largest penthouses at MUWA and Setsu take 10 adults, and Sansui’s three-bedroom suites take up to 7 guests. Hanazono, also in Kutchan, is where Zaborin and SHIGUCHI sit, about 15 minutes by car from JR Kutchan Station; both offer a free station transfer on request. Zaborin runs a free shuttle in ski season to the Hanazono ski area, about 7 minutes by car. Niseko Village, in Niseko Town, has one stay: the 50-room Ritz-Carlton Reserve, with an onsen, a spa and a kids’ club for ages 1.5 to 9.

Choose by itinerary

A ski week: stay in Hirafu or Niseko Village. In Niseko United’s plan for the 2026–27 season, the four ski areas open on 28 November 2026; Niseko Village closes on 4 April, Hanazono on 11 April, and Grand HIRAFU and Annupuri on 5 May 2027. A ryokan night inside a ski trip: add Zaborin or SHIGUCHI in Hanazono, with the station transfer. Green season: Kutchan Town gives Mt Yotei’s alpine flowers as early July to early August; the climb and return take about 10 hours. Noboribetsu or Hakodate: plan these as their own stops. Takinoya is about 8 minutes by taxi from JR Noboribetsu Station; Hotel Biaclyn Hakodate is about 10 minutes by car from JR Hakodate Station and 25 minutes from Hakodate Airport.

Who these stays suit

They suit skiers who want lifts close by (Hirafu), families who need a kitchen or a children’s room (Setsu and Sansui have both; the Ritz-Carlton Reserve has a kids’ club), and guests who want a ryokan with private baths (all rooms at Zaborin and SHIGUCHI, 12 of 30 at Takinoya). They suit less well travellers with young children choosing SHIGUCHI or Hotel Biaclyn Hakodate: SHIGUCHI generally takes guests aged 12 and over, and Biaclyn generally does not accept guests under junior-high age. For Tohoku and the Snow Country of Niigata and Gunma see Tohoku & Snow Country rated stays; for snow-season choices across Japan see snow-country stays.

Which Hokkaido stays are ski-in, ski-out?

MUWA NISEKO and Sansui Niseko in Hirafu describe themselves as ski-in, ski-out. Setsu Niseko runs a winter shuttle to the Grand HIRAFU gondola; Zaborin runs a ski-season shuttle to Hanazono.

How do I reach Niseko without a car?

By train to JR Kutchan Station: Zaborin, SHIGUCHI and Sansui Niseko offer free transfers from the station on request, and Setsu Niseko arranges pick-up between 9:00 and 18:00. From New Chitose Airport, Zaborin and SHIGUCHI give about 2 hours by car.

Can I combine Niseko with Noboribetsu or Hakodate?

Yes, but as separate stops with their own transfers. Takinoya is about 8 minutes by taxi from JR Noboribetsu Station; Hotel Biaclyn Hakodate is about 10 minutes by car from JR Hakodate Station and 35 minutes from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station.
