SHIGUCHI stands in a forest in the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Kaigan Quasi-National Park in Kutchan, in three relocated kominka (old houses) that are about 150 years old. Its five villas (Chi, Sui, Ka, Fu and Ku, from 144 to 351 sqm) each have a private onsen and terrace, western-style beds and in most cases a tatami room, and are decorated with ceramics, paintings and sculptures from the private collection of creative director Shouya Grigg. The hot spring water has no added water and can be used at any hour. Dinner and breakfast are served at the restaurant Somoza, where Chef Asao Sato cooks Hokkaido produce with French techniques. Guests are generally aged 12 and over, with children aged 10 and 11 accepted in the KA villa only.
