Azumi Setoda occupies the 150-year-old residence of the Horiuchi family, merchants who prospered from shipping and salt-making in Setoda on Ikuchijima island. Four styles of guest room line a courtyard in sukiya-style spaces of natural cedar and hinoki; every room has a hinoki bathtub, and guests can use the sister bathhouse yubune across the street free of charge during their stay. Dinner is a seasonal course built on Seto Inland Sea seafood and island-grown vegetables and citrus, served on tableware handed down by the Horiuchi family. Families are welcome: children aged 6 and over count as adults, and one child aged 5 or under may share a bed.
