Wasure no sato Gajoen is a ryokan at Myoken Onsen in Kirishima, Kagoshima, built along the Amori River from relocated old thatched-roof houses arranged like an old village. Its eight rooms range from 'bath-living' rooms where a former open-air bath has been roofed in and furnished, to a room with an open-air bath on a semi-outdoor wooden terrace, a two-storey detached maisonette and two large tatami suites facing the river. The gender-separated main bath 'Takeyu' is carved from a single rock of about 20 tonnes, and a naturally flowing spring bath can be used privately free of charge. Meals are Satsuma country cooking made with chicken from the inn's own farm and vegetables from its own fields, served in a relocated old thatched-roof house.
