Yama no Chaya is a single inn in Tonosawa Onsen, Hakone, reached by a suspension bridge over the Hayakawa River and surrounded by bamboo forest. Its wooden building on the mountainside dates from 1960 and has no elevator, so moving around involves stairs. There are 15 rooms in 12 types, many with open-air baths filled from the inn's own hot spring, pumped from 300 m underground; the same spring also fills four baths, three open-air and one indoor. Dinner is seasonal kaiseki, and breakfast is a Japanese set meal. A bar lounge serves more than 80 kinds of shochu.
