Onyado Chikurintei is a quiet inn with just 11 rooms on 150,000-tsubo grounds within Mifuneyama Rakuen, a garden opened in 1845 against the cliffs of Mt Mifune, a short distance from the hot-spring town of Takeo Onsen in Saga. Each room has its own layout and an open-air bath, several with a moon-viewing deck, and four rooms have private paths straight into the garden, which guests may enter free of charge. Takeo's clear, smooth spring water also fills a large bath of hinoki cypress and granite and an open-air bath by the bamboo grove, and guests can use the Rakan-no-Yu bath and sauna at Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel, a two-minute walk away, for free. Children below junior-high-school age are not accepted.
