At the bottom of a gorge with its own spring; reception is patchy.
ESPACIO The Hakone Geihinkan Rin-Poh-Ki-Ryu is a retreat of nine villas at the bottom of a valley in Miyanoshita, Hakone, beside the Hayakawa River and a five-minute walk from Miyanoshita Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway. Each villa has its own supply of hot spring water and is decorated by artists working in traditional crafts such as kumiko woodwork, karakami paper, lacquer and plaster. Villas range from one-bedroom units such as KIZUNA and SORA to the two-bedroom DAICHI and the three-level flagship TAKUMI, which has indoor and outdoor baths, a plunge pool, a hot stone bath and a sauna. Dinner follows Kyoto cuisine and the spirit of cha-kaiseki and is served in your own room, with a sake pairing supervised by sake sommelier Keita Akaboshi; breakfast is Japanese.
