Ryotei Hanzuiryo is a ryokan in Unzen Onsen, Nagasaki, with only 14 detached guest buildings on grounds of 5,000 tsubo, built in sukiya style using traditional techniques by Kyoto temple carpenters. Most villas are two-storey and about 250 m², with tatami rooms facing a Japanese garden on the ground floor and a bedroom upstairs, while two 300 m² single-storey special suites add an open-air bath, sauna and home bar. Guests share the Higashi-no-yu hot spring baths, with indoor and rock-built outdoor baths, a sauna and a cold plunge, fed by Unzen Onsen, a spa town said to have been opened as a healing retreat about 1,300 years ago. Dinner is a monthly-changing kaiseki of Kyushu produce, served either in your villa's ground-floor tatami room overlooking the garden or in a restaurant facing Mt. Fugen, depending on the plan.
