Shikikaboku is a small hotel with eight rooms in Kyoto's Higashiyama district, within walking distance of Heian Shrine and Nanzen-ji Temple and one minute on foot from Higashiyama subway station. The suites range from 26 to 54 square metres, each has a mini kitchen counter, and suite 501 uses karakami paper made by the Karacho Karakami Shop family. The hotel has open-air baths and a rooftop looking toward the slopes of Mount Higashiyama and the large torii gate of Heian Shrine. There is no in-house dinner; breakfast of Kyoto-grown vegetables is served in the lobby lounge, and the concierge helps book restaurants in the city.
