MICHELIN Key Hotels in Tokyo: The 2026 List

Tokyo holds one of the largest MICHELIN Key lists in this catalogue. The tiers matter more than the count: a three-Key hotel and a one-Key inn sit at different levels of the same judgement, and the format behind each Key varies more than the award does. The district matters as much — Tokyo is a set of centres, not one, and where you stay decides whether the trip is rail, museums or the bay. This list covers the Key hotels in this catalogue; The Peninsula Tokyo is on the 2026 roster but has no catalogue page here.

Tokyo in brief

Tokyo has no single centre. Marunouchi and Otemachi wrap the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station; Akasaka, Roppongi and Toranomon hold the embassies and towers; Shinjuku, Shibuya and Aoyama make up the west side; Shiba and Takanawa face the bay; Tachikawa sits outside the 23 wards. A hotel here is a transport decision as much as a style one.

The catalogue groups the city into five districts — Marunouchi and Ginza, Akasaka and Roppongi, the west side, the bay, and Tachikawa. Most first trips work best from Marunouchi or Akasaka; the bay suits a quieter stay with quick airport access. The district-by-district guide lists which stays sit in each.

When to go

Spring (late March to early April) is cherry blossom at Chidori-ga-fuchi and Shinjuku Gyoen. Summer (June to July) brings the Sanno Festival at Hie Jinja and the irises in Meiji Jingu’s inner garden. Autumn (mid-November to early December) is the maples and ginkgo. Winter (December to February) has the clearest views from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government observatories.

The three-Key tier

Three hotels hold three Keys. Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi runs to 190 rooms, Palace Hotel Tokyo to 284, and Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo to 98. This is the tier where Tokyo puts its large-format service.

The two-Key stays

Aman Tokyo is an 84-room retreat; Janu Tokyo has 122 rooms; The Capitol Hotel Tokyu runs to 251. The tier says less about size than about how completely each one delivers its own idea.

The one-Key tier

The one-Key tier is the widest group: station hotels such as The Tokyo Station Hotel, city hotels such as Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, design-led houses such as Hotel K5 and TRUNK(HOTEL) YOYOGI PARK, and Auberge TOKITO, a four-room auberge. For a first trip this is usually where the shortlist belongs, because the price and the format vary far more than the award does.

Prices are in US dollars, converted from the yen the properties quote at the Oct 7, 2026 reference rate, and are indicative.

A price marked ≈ is itself an estimate: halved from a published two-person total, or rounded from an earlier figure. Totals for 2 assume two guests sharing one room.

What is a MICHELIN Key?

A Key is the MICHELIN Guide’s hotel award, separate from its restaurant stars. One, two and three Keys mark increasing levels of the same judgement. It is not a star rating and not a guest-review score.

Which district should I stay in?

Marunouchi and Otemachi are best for the Shinkansen and the Imperial Palace; Akasaka and Roppongi for restaurants and museums; the bay for a quieter stay with airport access. The district guide compares the stays in each.

Do the Key hotels have private baths?

Private-bath records vary: some hotels record them in all rooms, some in only some rooms, and many entries are unrecorded. Check each hotel’s page before booking if a private bath is a requirement.
