Its 48 single-story villas recreate a traditional Taketomi village, with Ryukyu red-tile roofs, limestone walls and coral white-sand gardens, on an island of about 350 people.
HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island opened on 1 June 2012 as the third HOSHINOYA property, on Taketomi, a small island in Okinawa's Yaeyama group formed by uplifted coral reef. Its 48 single-story villas follow the island's traditional building style, with Ryukyu red-tile roofs, Ryukyu limestone walls and coral white-sand gardens; 28 are Western-style and 20 have tatami floors. The resort has a heated pool open 24 hours a day year-round, a spa and a guest lounge, and has no public bath. Dinner is the French 'Island Terroir' menu built on Yaeyama ingredients, and breakfast offers three Okinawan-inspired choices. Guests arrive by a 10-minute ferry from Ishigaki Port, then the hotel's shuttle bus from Taketomi Port.
