Capella Kyoto

Kengo Kuma's reimagined machiya has 89 rooms beside Kenninji, Kyoto's oldest Zen temple, and six suites with their own onsen bath.

Capella Kyoto is a four-storey hotel in Kyoto's Miyagawa-cho geisha district, beside Kenninji Temple and next to the Miyagawa-cho Kaburenjo theatre, designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates with Brewin Design Office. Its 89 rooms, including 29 suites, are all at least 50 square metres and are arranged around a courtyard with a water feature. Six Onsen Suites have their own natural onsen bath, and the Auriga Spa has three private onsen rooms. Dining includes SoNoMa by SingleThread, the first international outpost of the three-Michelin-starred SingleThread, plus the Lanterne brasserie and YOI kappo. The MICHELIN Guide reports it opened in March 2026.
