Araya Totoan is a traditional Japanese inn in the center of the Yamashiro Onsen hot spring resort that has been in business for 18 successive generations of owners. It has 17 rooms, 11 of them with an open-air bath of natural hot spring water; about 100,000 liters of hot spring water a day flows into the inn directly from the source, and there are three bathhouses. Meals use seasonal local ingredients from the Kaga region served on Kutani-ware porcelain and Yamanaka lacquerware, and guests dine in private rooms with tables and chairs. The artist Kitaoji Rosanjin stayed at the inn in the early 1900s, and some of his works are displayed in the lobby, gallery and Tea Room Gallery.
